Service Tips: Serve cool, around 10-11°C — not ice-cold, so as not to lose any of its complexity. A light decanting, or opening an hour before, will release the wine's character in younger vintages.

Domaine Jean Ginglinger & Fils is a family business in Pfaffenheim, south of Colmar, where vines have been cultivated since 1610. Jean-François Ginglinger, the twelfth generation, took over the family estate in 1999 and very early on committed the domain to the path of life: first trials in biodynamics in 1997, organic and biodynamic certification in the early 2000s, then a switch to natural wines from 2003. Since 2012, most of the production has been made without added sulfur, with indigenous yeasts and no inputs, across six hectares, a third of which are on the Grand Cru Steinert. The soil has been ploughed by horse since 2015. Cousin of Bruno Schueller and close to Gérard Schueller, Patrick Meyer or Jean-Pierre Frick, Jean-François is one of a handful of winemakers who have made Alsace natural wines a benchmark. The character of "Changala" found on his labels is a nod: a caricature of himself, a joyful signature of his turn towards free wine.

Label & Natural Wines

Some labels can help us identify a natural wine. The AB label, for example, certifies organic farming. The Demeter label, for its part, guarantees biodynamics. There is also the 'Vin Méthode Nature' label, as well as 'Nature et Progrès', 'Les Vins SAINS', and many others.

Some estates choose to adhere to a single label, or even not to be labeled at all, even though their cultivation and winemaking method would allow it. In other words, there is no strict rule. It all depends on the winemaker's vision, his desires, and his convictions.

For us, it is important to meet all the people we work with in order to understand their working method and select the products that match our ideology.

At Terra Vinea, we are deeply passionate about natural wine. We love the emotions it arouses, the surprises a bottle can give us, the memories wine gives us. We also find it important to consume a product grown and vinified with respect for the fauna and flora, preserving all the life around and in it.
