The history of the estate dates back to 1703. I took over the family estate in 2003. Since then, I have been dedicated to continuing the work my father Michel has done for 20 years, focusing on balanced vineyard management.
On my 17-hectare estate in Ecueil (Montagne de Reims), I practice unconventional, precise viticulture that respects the vine's cycles. My studies in agricultural engineering and oenology now allow me to better understand nature and its expression.
"My approach to the vine is very sensitive: no dogma, I observe and adapt my actions according to the specific characteristics of each year."
3 terroirs, 3 identities
My vineyard is located on 3 terroirs:
● Ecueil, 1er Cru with clay-limestone and sandy soil
● Villers-Allerand, 1er Cru with clay-limestone soil and chalk at a depth of 1.5 meters
● Bouzy, Grand Cru with clay-limestone soil and an outcropping chalk layer (0.5 meters), with hillsides mainly facing south.
These terroirs, primarily planted with Pinot Noir, represent a mosaic of terroirs, soils, and expressions, which allows me to create unique wines that faithfully reflect the identity of the soil.
The DNA of a terroir also lies in its preservation.
In 1973, my father, Michel, planted a plot of Pinot Noir using massal selection, without rootstock. Since then, these "Franc de pieds" (ungrafted) vines have developed their own root systems.
Only in great years does a cuvée emerge from this plot.
These vines have allowed me to create, only in exceptional years, the "Cuvée des Coupés," now considered my signature cuvée.
The vineyard consists of 65% massal selection vines, ensuring greater aromatic complexity.
It is composed of: 65% Pinot Noir, 17% Chardonnay,
15% Meunier, and 3% Petit Meslier, an ancient Champagne grape variety.
The average age of the vines is about 35 years.

Label & Natural Wines

Some labels can help us identify a natural wine. The AB label, for example, certifies organic farming. The Demeter label, for its part, guarantees biodynamics. There is also the 'Vin Méthode Nature' label, as well as 'Nature et Progrès', 'Les Vins SAINS', and many others.

Some estates choose to adhere to a single label, or even not to be labeled at all, even though their cultivation and winemaking method would allow it. In other words, there is no strict rule. It all depends on the winemaker's vision, his desires, and his convictions.

For us, it is important to meet all the people we work with in order to understand their working method and select the products that match our ideology.

Natural wine

At Terra Vinea, we are deeply passionate about natural wine. We love the emotions it arouses, the surprises a bottle can give us, the memories wine gives us. We also find it important to consume a product grown and vinified with respect for the fauna and flora, preserving all the life around and in it. These convictions are part of us, and we are proud to represent these women and men who put their heart and soul into offering us these living wines.
